Don, The building wiring code for Japan is JESC E0005 (2000) published by the Japan Electrotechnical Standards and Codes Committee. Regulations concerning plugs are the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law (ministerial ordinance No 2). Plugs are defined by Japanese Industrial Standards JIS C 8303 and JIS C 8282-1. This and similar information for most countries can be found in the British Standards Institution guide to Electrical Plugs and Wiring, ISBN 0 580 40408 0.
