    I'm not surprised by you comments that the line noise erased your
memory.  

    What level of protection is designed into your power supply?  What
level of impulse will ride thru the power supply and appear on your SELV
power supplies?  How does that compare to the pulse level needed to erase
the memory?  

    I have seen a huge impulse (many kV) that has fried the protection,
proceeded thru the power supply and permanently impaired the memory.
Unfortunately it didn't completely fry the memory and the user kept trying
to use the computer and getting disabled output (not always completely
wrong) the outcome of which was that his business suffered and almost died.
Replacing the system seemed to be the best solution.
