The ANSI Z535 standards are the US implementation of hazard markings
and ISO 3864 is the international standard for the same.
The US standard is more advanced than the international standard
because of the 40 year challenge to safe products history that the US has
over Europe.
There has been quite a bit of effort to harmonize the requirements
so that the same approach can be used to warn users of hazards.

There is an interesting paper on ISO 3864-2 which gives a good
comparison and update.
