I have seen some references lately to the EuP Directive and it's upcoming July 2007 implementation date, but it seems to me that it has no impact yet. The "deadline" next July is only for the Commission to "establish a working plan" (article 16, paragraph 1) that gives a 3 year view of the products that will be "considered as priorities for the adoption of implementing measures". It appears from the text of the Directive, and from the information site the EU has set up for this Directive (http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/eco_design/index_en.htm) that we are in a planning and researching phase, that will be followed by a round of work to define product groups that will be targeted first, and to draft "implementing measures" and perhaps harmonized standards.
So it sounds to me like we are many years away from there being any real requirements that designers and producers have to meet as a condition of use of the CE Mark. Does anyone disagree with that summary? Does anyone have a better feel for the timeline involved, or what product groups will be targeted first? Thanks, Jim Eichner, P.Eng.
