( http://www.pubs.com/pub_details.cfm?ID=203 ) Information available on speakers and talks: Advanced PCB level EMC Topics. - Proper use of EMC techniques is an ever-present necessity for electronics designers. Some issues are of continuing importance for nearly all types of circuit. Ground planes are de rigeur for any circuit except the simplest, but there is widespread misunderstanding of how best to implement them: split planes for different parts of the circuit, or a single universal plane for all? Having implemented a 0V plane, the power supplies must be decoupled to it. How should you choose, place and track your decoupling capacitors? These topics will be explored in this presentation. Elmac Services provides consultancy and training on all aspects of EMC, including design, testing and the application of standards, to companies manufacturing electronic products and concerned about EMC. Tim Williams has worked in electronic product design in various industry sectors including process instrumentation and audio visual control, with particular responsibility for EMC, and in 1990 he started Elmac Services as an independent consultant. He is the author of "The Circuit Designer's Companion" (2nd edition, Elsevier 2004) and "EMC for Product Designers" (presently in its third edition, Elsevier 2001), and has presented numerous conference papers and seminars. He is also author of a third book "EMC for Systems & Installations" with Keith Armstrong. Etienne SICARD was born in Paris, June 1961. He received the B.S degree in 1984 and the PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toulouse, in 1987, in the laboratory LAAS of Toulouse. He was granted a Monbusho scholarship and stayed 18 months at Osaka University, Japan (1988-1989). Previously a professor of electronics in the Department of Physics, University of Balearic Islands, SPAIN (1990), Etienne SICARD is currently a professor at INSA of Toulouse, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is a visiting professor at the electronic department of Carleton University, Ottawa, in 2004. At LESIA, within the GEET academic consortium, his research interest include several aspects of CAD Tools for the design of integrated circuits, including signal integrity in deep sub-micron CMOS ICs and electromagnetic compatibility. Etienne SICARD is the author of books and several software in the field of micro-Electronics ( Microwind), speech therapy (Vocalab) as well as technical papers concerning electromagnetic compatibility of CMOS integrated circuits. He is a member of French SEE and the IEEE EMC society. He was elected in 2006 distinguished IEEE lecturer for EMC of ICs.
