Peter, Unfortunately it is not quite so simple as looking up Table 9. IEC 61010-1 takes into account Pollution degree and Material Group (of the insulation). You need to start there to determine what creepage and clearance must be allowed for the Pollution degree that your equipment is expected to operate in. Pollution is an all-embracing term for dust and dirt of all types that may accumulate on surfaces. Pollution degree 1 includes no pollution or only dry, non-conductive pollution that has no effect on the performance of the insulation. This might apply to equipment for use in a 'clean' laboratory with climate control or if the equipment itself is sealed. Pollution degree 2 is where normally only non-conductive pollution occurs, but where temporary conductivity caused by condensation must be expected. This might be an uncontrolled laboratory, electronics workshop, or 'office-like' environment. Pollution degree 3 is where conductive pollution occurs or dry, non-conductive pollution occurs which becomes conductive due to condensation which is expected. This might be something like a factory environment. Now, if we assume Pollution degree 2 and take the worst case material Group (III), Table 4 tells us that the required creepage distance for Mains Circuits operating at 230Vrms is 3.0mm or 1.5mm on printed wiring boards. Table 5 tells us that for a working voltage of up to 300Vrms and a mains voltage of 230Vrms the required clearance is 0.94mm. This is considerably less than the creepage distance, so we will use that. Now, table 9 tells us that for a clearance of 1.0mm, the test voltage should be 1060Vrms or 1500Vpk or Vdc. Given the probability of Class Y capacitors in the mains circuit, a dc test at 1500V would probably be the best choice. I hope this helps. Best regards
