Hello John, I have been using the GTEM Cell manufactured by ETS for over four ( 4 ) years now. My experience has been that in terms of 'repeatability' it performs extremely well. Integrated within my lab setup we use TILE EMC SOFTWARE, for Radiated, Conducted and Immunity Tests. I perform prescans before taking it to an independent lab in my area for FCC Class A Declaration -Non intentional, etc . I have yet to have a product that did not meet the independent lab's test requirements . I would however be concern with products that have a high clock speed. FCC Regulations are that Radiated Emissions Test must go out to the fifth ( 5th ) Harmonic ( of the highest CLK freq in the EUT ) and depending on your spec analyzer / Receiver you may have limit bandwidth capabilities in testing ( I prescans ONLY UP TO 1GHz. ) And use the independent lab results to find out if there were spikes above the limits beyond 1 GHz ( typically there are not ) Hope the info helps.

The limitation that seems to be mentioned the most is the difficulty in cable manipulation/ cabling being part of the finite EUT test volume available limits the accuracy/ correlation of test data below 230 MHz. I'm looking into purchasing GTEM cells as a supplement to our anechoic chamber. They are appealing due to the fact that they are cheaper and we can fit sveral of even the largest TEM cell in the area taken up by one chamber. My first question would be whether practical solutions to the cable manipulation issue have been identified and if so what is it? I also know that the reading from the septum varies depending on location in the test area. What is the group's experience with repeatability from emissions scan doing repeated test on the same product? I'm just trying to get a feel for how practical TEMs are for emissions testing.
