I would think that 'whiskering' will require several years to quantify
impact. Does anyone know what the typical period is for either whisker or
dendrite growth ? In any case, we have had RoHS-compliant products in the
field for almost 2 years with no problems.

My initial HALT results were less than what we needed. After several false
starts and process 'tweaks', the margins indicated by previous HALTs
returned, the birds resumed singing, and the sun continued to shine.

But, because some customers demand non-RoHS construction, logistics and
parts control probably eats a little more of our overhead.

In any case, the manufacturing people need to pay constant and close
attention, because RoHS materials seem to be less forgiving of any slight
process deviations.

luck,
Brian

Subject: Post-ROHS; any defect experiences?

Colleagues,

Now that we are several months into the ROHS regime, have any of you
experienced product non-conformances that you attribute to the new
metallurgies? There have been discussions and concerns about 'whiskering'
and the legislation - I think - granted an extension to servers. What is
the group's experience so far?

Is there a forum for this matter anywhere?

Respectfully,
