Have you ever heard of that happening? I think it's a technological 
myth.

discussion late, however I take issue with your statement above. You may
think it is a myth but I have seen it many times. Specifically in
telephone equipment that was hit by lightning. At times the traces would
hang down from the bottom several inches. The resin would be burned away
leaving the glass matt without adhesion. It does happen.

But consider that there are hundreds of millions of such consumer 
electronic products in use, with no incidents being reported.
