Fellow homologists, I am asking for opinions on the correct (or common) use of four of the IEC symbols. (I cannot access the archives no matter how hard I try): EN60417.5007 ON (Supply) or | EN60417.5008 OFF (Supply) or O EN60417.5104 Start (of function) or | inside a 'diamond' EN60417.5110 Stop (of function) or triangle inside O Our equipment (induction heating systems), is mains-powered with a circuit breaker [labelled ON/OFF per above], accessed either at the rear of the enclosure or the front. Once powered, the ouput is zero until a labelled button is pressed. Another button is pressed to remove the output voltage [Start/Stop per above]. My selection of these symbols for Start/Stop is being questioned. My reasoning is that the |/O symbols are reserved for system (supply) power and to re-use them for Start/Stop, as described here, is ambiguous and potentially hazardous. Your opinions please?
