Cody, In the chamber I had built we installed the heads in the chamber but did not hook them up to the building standpipe plumbing. They were there though in case the Building Inspector and Fire Marshall wanted them hooked up. Turns out they did not ask for them to be hooked up. I chose this route over asking them up front because I was afraid they would simply say "yes, put in sprinklers" having not seen the chamber. Having them make that decision after seeing the chamber in place avoided the need to have the plumbing run (but I was ready for it if need be).
We have a modular chamber and the wood in-between the sheet metal is particle board. If that gets wet it expands and the chamber will be a total loss. I know of a lab that experienced a flood, 2+ feet of water. They told me that they could hear the rivets firing off like bullets ricocheting around inside the chamber as the particle board soaked up the water.
