Brian - thanks but have clarified it - IEC 61058 requires all parts to
be V-2 or HB or better dependent on which part of the switch is
considered - however EN 60065:2002 (and the obs 1998) imposes the
additional need for V-0 throughout.............

I just happened to be looking at UL61058-1 - as I have no life at all -
(UL says that it is based on IEC61058-1, Ed 3.1). Clause
21.1 (res to heat and fire) references Annex E for the ball pressure
test, and Annex C for the glow-wire test.

While I would not consider use of a switch that is not 61058-certified,
it would seem that the tests referenced in
61058-1 are needed only if you are evaluating the switch as a separate
item. And if you are evaluating it as a separate component, you need to
use the most stringent level (3).

The flammability (glow-wire and ball-pressure) tests are applied to
current-carrying parts and parts that used for protection against shock.
The test temperature level 3 = 850 degC. 61058-1 also says "Where an
appliance standard gives no indication of the level, reference can be
made to IEC 60335-1 for guidance."

Also, 61058-1 has other electrical and mechanical and EMC requirements.
