Hello all,
I need to be re-educated. When testing an stand-alone FM receiver for
FCC Part 15 Class B Verification. Is there an exemption for the local
oscillator when you are tuned to a frequency (eg tuned frequency plus 10.7 MHz
or minus depending on the design). In part 2 of the rules there is this
statement.
Emission. Radiation produced, or the production of radiation, by a radio
transmitting station.
NOTE: For example, the energy radiated by the local oscillator of a radio
receiver would not be an emission but a radiation. (RR)
and then
Radiation. The outward flow of energy from any source in the form of radio
waves. (RR)
So, does that mean that the local oscillator is exempt from the Class
B limit? I thought it was clearer somewhere in the rules, but I cannot find it
in either Part 15 or ANSI C63.4-2009. It is clear in EN 55013 what the limits
are for a local oscillator.
