I have been reading through ANSI C95.1-2005 with an interest toward the
limitation of RF induced currents, which leads me to Paragraph 4.2.

 

But here’s where I get confused, For instance, I have a 230 MHz intentional
emitter that has a peak power of about 20 Watts, albeit with a fairly low duty
cycle that yields a much lower average power. So, I drill into Paragraph 4.2
for BR.s & MPE’s in the frequency range of 100 kHz to 3 GHz. Going deeper, I
find Paragraph 4.2.3 addressing contact & induced current limits for the
frequency range of 100 kHz to 110 MHz. But, there is nothing similar for 110
MHz through 3 GHz.

 

My question is, why is 110 MHz chosen as an arbitrary upper limit of
regulation and guidance? Was 110 MHz chosen for some good physical reason, or
is it possibly a limit based on the measurement technique? It just doesn’t
make any sense that there would be no concern about emitters >110 MHz!

 

As an aside, the text of Paragraph 4.2.3, and the associated Figures 1 & 2,
give me a bad feeling because they seem to not agree on a value of 100 MHz or
110 MHz for that upper limit. Either 110 MHz should be 100 MHz, or the figures
are drawn incorrectly. And 100 MHz is a much nicer big round number if you
need some arbitrary stopping point.

 

Am I missing something elsewhere in the ANSI spec, or will this 100/110 MHz
bound soon be moved a lot higher? Thanks in advance for any comments!
