Hello Tim,
The new sound pressure levels were published by CENELC earlier this year for the EN60065 Audio Video Standard in Amendment A12. They were just recently adopted by BSI so you can get a copy of EN60065:2002+A12:2011 with the new requirements. The Date of Publication (DOP) for CENELEC member countries is 2012-01-24 so any GS certificate issued after that date must consider the new requirements. I don’t believe the IEC60065 standard has adopted these new requirements and since the CB is based on the IEC standard not the EN standard I would ask TUV why they are requiring you to comply for a CB certificate. Ask them to show you where in the IEC standard the requirements are? France does have local requirements which are similar but I am not sure how they are enforcing them but again they are not listed in IEC60065 as a National Deviation so TUV should not be considering them for a CB certificate. Hope this helps and good luck! My product DVD player(only could be powered by AC mains) is doing safety testing in China TUV-SUD, I was told that a so called sound pressure testing require for GS mark for Audio/Video product, either portable device or desktop device. They told me it is also required for France. The headphone output exceeds the limit 150MV now. Actually I’m doing CB in the lab, not GS, however, the lab insist that even though you don’t do GS mark, we also have to evaluate the testing. So only meet the standard, they will issue CB. Be frankly, even though I don’t do GS certfication, I still worry about if the testing is also required for desktop audio product with headphone output? The lab didn’t give me standard, they said “we don’t have, we just aware of it, so you must follow it”. I didn’t find out any national regulation on this matter. Please help.
