TOPIC# 1: EMI Shielding Fundamentals and Advanced Materials Required to Meet
Performance Standards
This presentation will cover EMI shielding fundamentals, such as controlling
radiated emissions and reaching attenuation performance needed to pass
regulatory standards. There will also be a review of shielding materials
needed to shield commercial and military applications, such as:
• Shielded windows
• Shielded air vents
• Various types of shielding gaskets
(Samples of all materials will be available for review by attendees.)
These materials have been used and designed in numerous applications that
require performance, integrity, survivability and maintainability of
communication equipment, radars, aircraft, missiles, spacecraft, computers,
fire control systems and industrial electronics.

Speaker: Steve Mullenix of Metex (now Metal Textiles Corp.).
Steve is the Market Manager of the Metal Textiles Corp. (Metex) in Edison,
N.J. Metal Textiles is a 40-year-old manufacturer of EMI/EMP/ESD shielding
materials. Steve has over 30 years experience in the EMC community. He has
worked on various military and commercial shielding applications. He has been
associated with the IEEE/EMC Society for 30 years. Steve's EMC activities
include: Publication Chairman for the Dallas/Fort Worth IEEE/EMC Symposium in
1996, Co-Chairman for Exhibits for the Austin IEEE/EMC Symposium in 2009,
Membership Committee Chairman for the IEEE/EMC Society in 1999, Past Chapter

This presentation will include:
• EMI no-no’s
• EMI design tips
• Filtering limits
• Chassis shielding

Speaker: Shawnt Aghajanian, LCR Electronics.
Shawn graduated from Temple University with a BS in Electrical and Computer
Engineering in 2007. During his two years as a software engineer at Feith
Systems, he worked with digital imaging and databases. Shawnt joined the LCR
team in February 2009, designing EMI filters for commercial and military
applications. Find more about LCR Electronics at www.lcr-inc.com
