Any TCB that is approved for SAR evaluation can do this. Some may not know how, but it should be able to be done. We do this fairly often. The issue is that the original grant notes cannot be changed as they affect how the device is used in a mobile configuration. The portable configuration is added with specific grant notes that limit the module to ONLY those portable devices tested and approved.

Is it easier/normal to use the original TCB that provided the FCC ID? The original grant for the module is mobile rf exposure and any module where SAR is needed and thus restricted to a specific host must address this issue. This then changes, at least for this particular host, the grant to a limited modular approval. Other issue will probably exist, but this is the minimum that needs to be done. The FCC grant states: “Approval is limited to OEM installation only. The antenna(s) used for this transmitter must be installed to provide a separation distance of at least 20 cm from all persons and must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.” This product is now being used in a device which will be body worn and therefore less than 20cm. We are having an appropriate SAR test carried out to ensure that it complies. Is it necessary to get a new FCC grant or can we list the original FCC ID on the outside of the product and not involve a TCB again?
