This concept normally is of significance only in special cases where the product is not 'placed on the market'. New Approach Directives require compliance at that stage, when it precedes 'taking into service', or when 'taken into service' if it was not previously 'placed on the market' (e.g. a product made by the manufacturer for in-house use).
