One of your most illustrious compatriots, the late Arthur C. Clarke,
compiled a list of stories published under the title, "Tales from the White
Hart."  The White Hart being a fictional tavern where engineering and
scientific types would hang out after hours. The Tales are whoppers they
told each other in a "well-lubricated" competition to see who could spin the
biggest but yet seemingly plausible lie. It is a good read.  Another good
read might be a collection of the most bizarre (scientifically speaking)
items offered for sale on the Internet.
