Rob

My interpretation of the definition is 3.1 is:

Ancillary equipment is something that would only used with a radio
transmitter/receiver but that is not required for the basic operation of the
equipment.

For example - an external GPS receiver might be used provide timing signals
to a TDD radio basestation. The basestation can transmit without being
synchronised by the GPS receiver, but the timing signals from the GPS
receiver are really only of use to a TDD basestation, so it can be
considered to be ancillary equipment.

If you have a radio product where by the transmitter unit also has other
functionality, you would have to assess the unit against more than one
standard.

Subject: Ancillary Equipment

Can someone please define "ancillary equipment" for me as used in
conjunction with European RF standards (for example, ETSI EN 301 489-1).
The definition contained in that document leaves me somewhat confused.

Also what if the equipment contains other functions not related to the
transmitter? For example, a passport reader that reads an RFID tag but also
has a mode that read UV inks. What is "ancillary" and what is not?

Thanks,
