Subject: IEEE Region 3 Employment Assistance Project

IEEE Region 3 Members,

The employment situation in Region 3 for engineers continues to be uncertain.
Layoffs at NASA has created a ripple effect that has impacted subcontractors
all across Region 3. In addition, the lack of capital expansion has put many
other engineers at risk at product and design engineering firms.

To support our IEEE members in Region 3, we have launched an Employment
Assistance Project that will include expansion of online resources and local
Section employment workshops.

Our first step is to determine where the most support is needed in Region 3.
We have posted a Region 3 Career & Employment Survey at,

http://surveymonkey.com/s/region3employmentsurvey

Please take a moment to take this short six question survey. It's important
to have everyone's input.

A new brochure has been created that lists the Membership Benefits available
to IEEE members. This brochure also provides links to all IEEE and IEEE-USA
career web sites. The brochure can be downloaded at,

http://ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/ea/IEEE_Career_and_Employment_Benefits.pdf

Region 3 has an Employment Assistance web site at,

http://ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/ea/

Please review this web site and help us develop additional resource links that
can benefit Region 3 members.

A region wide workshop called "Career Survival for Engineers and Scientists in
the 21st Century" is planned for October 23 in all 41 Region 3 Sections. More
information will be available shortly on the Region 3 web site and on your
local Section web site.

Ed Kirchner, ([email protected]), is our Employment & Career Services
Committee Representative. Please use Ed as a ongoing resource to understand
what the IEEE can do to support the career needs of members.

Finally, we need your help. Each Section is identifying a local volunteer
that can become their Employment Coordinator. If you have a "Type A"
personality and the time to work with local members, please tell your Section
Chair that you would like to support this very important function. We will
provide training, resources and motivation.

One of the biggest benefits of being an IEEE member is becoming a part of the
IEEE Network. Let's make the network work for our fellow members that are
unemployed.

Sincerely,

Lee Stogner, PMP

Director, Region 3
