Hello Derek,

The applicable standard may depend on the intended use of the device. For
many applications of HVAC equipment, I am going to make an argument for EN
55014.

EN 60335-2-40 is the Safety of household and similar electrical appliances,
Part 2: Particular requirements for electrical heat pumps, air-conditioners
and dehumidifiers. Its scope states "Appliances not intended for normal
household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public,
such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry
and on farms, are within the scope of this standard." HVAC where laymen will
set the temperature, change filters and such would fall under this safety
standard.

If EN 60335-40 is the applicable safety standard, then EN 55014 would be the
corresponding EMC standard. Its scope states that it "applies to the
conduction and the radiation of the radio-frequency disturbances from
appliances whose main functions are performed by motors and switching or
regulating devices, unless the r.f. energy is intentionally generated or
intended for illumination."

Putting these two together, I would lean towards stating that EN 55014 is the
applicable standard for HVAC equipment with the exception of industrial and
heavy commercial units.

Subject: HVAC Product standard

Morning folks,

I have been asked by a client to test a piece of HVAC equipment, and his
proposal is for EN 61326. While I admit there is some interpretation where
this could be seen as applicable, I was wondering if there were now specific
HVAC equipment product standards published.

Many thinks in advance,
