Designing a mouse that is waterproof and has a metal shell definitely has its
challenges.  I would never expect a desktop computer to be tested with
industrial peripherals, which many have metal enclosures.  The strongest
selling feature of the mouse is the stainless steel shell, which is perfect
for use in pharmaceutical and food manufacturing.  It is my company's
responsibility to manufacture a product that can comply with the standards,
even if it is used with a desktop computer inside the enclosure.

the PC products were originally qualified for their " intended environment ".  
now they are being used outside of their intended environment.

True, but 'FMJ' mice are supplied with some industrial computers.
