EMC-PSTC'ers,
A week and a half ago I asked if anyone had information on the
transition periods and expiration dates for Australian and New Zealand
(AS/NZS) electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards.

I finally ran across a web page with the expiration dates for AS/NZS EMC
standards: "(ACMA) EMC standards list", at
      http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=pc=PC_310707
lists the "Standard being replaced", and the "Expiry date of replaced
standard".

I found two documents specifying:
* Two year transition periods for IEC, AS/NZS, and CISPR standards.
* Transition periods matching the European Union (EU) for EN standards.

1. An Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) booklet,
"Electromagnetic Compatibility, Compliance and Labelling", dated
   September 2008, at
      http://www.rfi-ind.com.au/web/C-Tick%20Book_%20Sep%202008.pdf

   On page 16,
"What happens if standards are amended or replaced?
Devices must meet the requirements of a standard listed on the ACMA
website (www.acma.gov.au/standards/emc) that is applicable to it on
the day the device is first manufactured or imported. A standard is
applicable until the expiry date listed for that standard.

A transition period exists when an applicable standard is amended or
replaced. For devices first manufactured or imported during the
transition period, the supplier may choose which version of the
standard to use (the old version or the amended/replaced version).

For devices first manufactured or imported after the end of the
transition period, only the amended or replaced standard may be used.

The transition periods and conditions are stated in Part 6 of the EMC
Labelling Notice. For IEC, AS/NZS or CISPR standards, the period is
two years. For EN standards, the period is stated in the Official
Journal of the European Union entry for the standard."

  On page 21,
"6.3 Transitional — devices to which IEC, CISPR or AS/NZS standards
       apply
      (1) This section applies to a device if:
          (a) any of the IEC, CISPR or AS/NZS standards (the old
standard) is the applicable standard for the device; and
          (b) the applicable old standard is amended or replaced by a
new standard before the day on which a device was first
              manufactured or imported.
      (2) For a device to which this section applies, the supplier of a
device mentioned in subsection (1) may, for a device supplied
within a period of 2 years after the old standard is amended
or replaced, choose that the applicable standard for this
          Notice is:
          (a) the old standard; or
          (b) the new or amended standard.

6.4 Transitional — devices to which EN standard applies
       (1) This section applies to a device if:
           (a) an EN standard (the old EN standard) is the applicable
               standard for the device; and
           (b) the old EN standard is amended or replaced by a new EN
standard before the day on which a device was first
               manufactured or imported.
       (2) For a device to which this section applies, the supplier of a
device mentioned in subsection (1) may, for a device supplied
within the Official Journal period after the old EN standard
is amended or replaced, choose that the applicable standard
           for this Notice is:
           (a) the old EN standard; or
           (b) the new or amended EN standard.
       (3) In this section:
Official Journal period means the period:
           (a) commencing on the day the old EN standard is amended or
               replaced; and
           (b) ending on the date of cessation of presumption of
conformity mentioned from time to time in the Official
Journal of the European Union for the old EN standard."
