FYI, UL Certification Requirement Decision issued 05Jun2009 for vehicle cig lighter and data port powered equipment.
"Adds requirements to address power units with provision for supply from ITE data ports, such as USB, firewire, etc.; and units with an integral cigarette lighter connector assembly." This will also affect units assessed to UL60950-1 that require a limited power source, as the update specifies that it must be constructed with the assumption that the max avail input = 8A, 100VA, 60V; and that data ports on IT equipment conform to UL1310. Some of the POE and USB-powered equipment may no longer meet safety where USA OSHA/NFPA 70E required.
