I believe that automobile

aftermarket components ESA that are not

immunity related have been removed from the scope

of 2004/104/EC, and need ce marking instead of e-marking.

So for cars and ESA that are immunity related, apply 2004/104

and for ESA that are not immunity related, apply a harmonized

standard.

A standard that will soon be harmonized is EN 50498:2008

It relate to CISPR 25 and ISO 7637 as test methods, but

introduces a full continuous emission limit instead of

scattered frequency limits as in CISPR 25.

For a description of what immunity related is:

see the new automotive directive , to be downloaded

at http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/automotive/directives/vehicles/index.htm

Ron,

This question was posted on Interference Technology’s Automotive forum. The
following reply was from one of our readers.

I strongly recommend www.autoemc.net as a good source of standards information.

Mira's web site states:

"Aftermarket components fitted to the vehicle are assumed to be suitable for
the vehicle's EMC environment. Type approval is to ensure that the component
when fitted does not affect the type approval of the vehicle.

Aftermarket components had the option until 1 October 2002 of continuing to
meet the EMC requirements of the country in which they were being sold, or of
meeting the requirements of 95/54/EC. (The "CE" mark is considered to be a
misleading mark for a device within the scope of 95/54/EC.)"

http://certification.mira.co.uk/95_54_EC.htm

Automotive EMC Directive (2004/104/EC) is an update to 94/54/EC.

Both of these standards you can find all over online with a quick Google
search. They're public record so don't pay some shady website to download it.

Thanks,

Kate Savo

Subject: [PSES] Automobile EMC/EMI standards

Dear colleagues,

I’m looking for some help in finding EMC/EMI
standards/references/requirements for aftermarket Electronic Subassemblies
installed in automobiles. I’m aware of the SAE standards, and the IEC CISPR
25, ISO 7637, ISO 10605 and ISO 11452. Are there additional EMC/EMI standards
I should be aware of, from those listed above?

Thanks

Ron Baugh
