That is a technique used by many listeners who are content to place the antenna near their receiver. However, if your receiver has an antenna input separate from the ferrite wound loop, the current probe coupling technique is more efficient. Also, if you want your loop mounted remote from your radio, as in the attic, or in a metal building where the antenna needs to be near a window, then again the current probe technique makes the remote positioning possible and efficient.
