There are many sorts of retained fasteners, with large differences in 
cost and ease of application and use. It pays to devote some time to 
choosing the type that best suits the application.

For example, the very simplest solution, if it's acceptable, may be to 
add an e-clip (those flat spring clips that look a bit like the Euro 
sign or the 'E' of the CE mark: see http://supaseal.co.uk/clips.htm) to 
the existing fixing screw.
