Notice that although the R&TTE Directive does not mention NB number height directly... the Commission's R&TTE Guidance document states (advises?) that the NB number should be the same height as the CE Mark.
I think Charlie's suggestion makes good sense but be warned that an enthusiastic surveillance authority could ask questions. Michael.
