It isn't - there's an option to raise it onto the table if it can be done
safely, otherwise it's put on a low non-conductive support and tested as it is.
That part of the EUT will be illuminated, but not fully

Thanks to all who answered thus far, and to specifically address Mr. Woodgate,
no I don't have the latest version. In fact, the version I have is IEC
1000-4-6, and it is presently boxed up and inaccessible.

But there remains one question I thought inherent in my original post, but
either left unanswered, or I'm not getting it.

The equipment is floor-standing. How is the portion from the floor up to 80 cm
above the floor properly illuminated in the test facility?

This equipment will not be tested in situ.

In-situ testing of large industrial installations is not uncommon. The tests
can be modified as appropriate or necessary for the equipment under test as
long as rationale and procedures are well documented. This is perfectly
acceptable under the TCF route to compliance with the EMC Directive. After
all, presumption of conformity is established by applying the harmonized
standards or through the TCF route when harmonized standards cannot be applied
or can only be applied in part. While a Notified Body is no longer needed to
approve a TCF, I would recommend that an accredited test organization with EU
recognition and experience in in-situ testing be used.

Ken

You don't worry about it - you illuminate different parts of the EUT in turn -
test the 1.5 meter square area then move your EUT and test another section of
it in the UFA.
That won't work for all products so an alternative approach is discussed in
EUANB TGN 27 on on-site testing of large machines

How is the field intensity established outside the 1.5 meter square area UFA?

Partial illumination, with sufficient overlap.

Forum Members,

For a large piece of industrial equipment which is floor-standing and wider in
length and possibly height than the uniform field area (UFA) specified in
EN61000-4-3, how is the test performed?

Thank you,
