I have received the sad news that John G. Smith has passed away. He was a fixture in the Southern California compliance community as an expert in EMC and product safety. John was a good friend and mentor, and the guy who was responsible for me getting into product safety initially. I have worked with him on and off for the last 25 years.
John was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was paralyzed in an accident at age 21 but did not let that stop him from living life to the fullest. He loved to tinker with things and won prizes for his customized PT Cruiser he designed with the automated arm that would pick up his folded wheelchair and put it in the back seat. He will be greatly missed.
