At the risk of offending anyone who thinks that their local "baseline" is
"The Baseline", remember that a baseline is a common surveying term, and
there are a lot of "baselines." Why, they even have them in Canada!

Interesting discussion about the 40th parallel. As it turns out the
exploration of the American territories in years past has often involved
this line. I personally drive across this delimiter every day, traveling to
and from work.  My workplace in Louisville Colorado is at latitude 39.96745
degrees north, less than 2 miles away.  This parallel is marked by "Baseline
Road", named for the very same and celebrated geographic feature.
