When I was a senior in high school and preparing to go to college, I was
surprised at the number of times this exchange occurred:

Them: So what major are you going for?

Me: I'm going to be an Engineer.

Them: Like... on a train?

I guess you have to consider your audience.  If you're pitching, and the
other party doesn't understand what a "compliance engineer" is (or doesn't
ask you for more information), they probably don't need one, and you
probably don't want to work for them anyway.
