I would speculate that "misuse" is not careless use, but rather the use of the product for actions that other devices are much more practically suited and that a reasonable person would normally choose. For instance, should a cockroach crawl across your desk as you read this, it would be "misuse" to squash him with a slap of your keyboard. (It may also be bad karma, but let's not get too philosophical.)
Misuse creates humor in direct proportion to the degree of outrageous inappropriateness of the action. For instance, activating a pushbutton switch with a hammer is misuse of the switch (although perhaps not of the hammer), and more humorous as the size of the hammer increases. Now, reaching for some relevance to the thread, misuse of a cordset might be something like using it in place of a lift chain.
