Hello Ian, The quick answer is that multiple output supplies provided as replacement parts are exempt from the upcoming efficiency requirements.
In general, you are allowed to provide repair/replacement parts to your customers as long as they comply with the regulations that were in place when the original part was sold and/or installed. This generally applies to safety and energy requirements. The Blue Guide gives similar guidance for spare and replacement parts in the European Union. That being said, there are a few exceptions where replacement parts must conform to the latest regulations, but those are generally rare and likely wouldn't apply in your case. Although not strictly an EMC or safety question I am hoping someone might be able to help. The new US DOE Energy Efficiency regulations for external power supplies (EPS level VI) are due to become mandatory in February 2016 and now include multi-output external power supplies. These regulations had an amendment added in December 2014 clarifying the supply of spare power supplies to existing equipment: "The EPS Service Parts Act HR5057 2014". What is not made clear to me in this amendment is the supply of multi-output external power supplies as spares for existing equipment that does not meet the requirements of Level VI. It mainly deals with single output EPS. As a manufacturer with a number of legacy products still in use and powered by multi output power supplies that do not meet the requirements of level VI, are we allowed to manufacture and distribute spares to the original design.
