As far as I am aware, the FDA has not made any public statements regarding the third edition since their February 2015 guidance on the laser illuminated projectors<http://www.fda.gov/ucm/groups/fdagov-public/@fdagov-meddev-gen/documents/document/ucm434502.pdf>. This does not necessarily imply that there have been no discussions that have not yet been made public.
It appears we have only 15 months before the third edition will be required for the presumption of conformity in Europe yet the United States would still require the second edition under Laser Notice 50. It is not an optimal situation.
