I also agree – but the “smart” thing to do is to “harvest” and collate all the
info you can find from the websites of the various testing services, as well as
digging into the info on the websites of the various national regulatory bodies
in the countries of interest.

The free on-line and “promotional” seminars that many testing services offer to
tempt you to sign-up with them are another good source of basic info.

That way you can probably find 70-80% of the info you need to start with, and
then, if you need to, you can ask the testing services the “leading questions”
about the “missing” bits & “gotcha’s”.

Used to do that a lot before I retired, and I concluded that I could find
almost anything I needed to know to a first & second approximation – and
certainly enough to know what I/we would need to do/ask next if the market in
question was significant. (a very long career in doing that sort of thing for
all sorts of products for many countries kinda helps though J! )

100% agree with you. Those testing service companies just re-package their
existing services and give them a new name to sell to other companies who
believe testing companies know everything about product compliance. Looking at
their quotation and to see if you can find something like all the mandatory
requirements of the product for the country. That is most people mis-interpret
the capability of those testing service companies. They may be the expertise
and most knowledgeable on their testing scope. If you need those limited info
only, they are your good partner.

It should be kept in mind that all of these so-called services are sales tools.
My experience with all of the agencies discussed have been less than stellar on
the delivery side, once a PO is placed.
