I am scoping the requirements for a pole mounted real time energy monitor, mounted near a pole mounted street transformer (11kV-240VAC).
The core product is a DIN rail energy meter with * Neutral and three phase inputs, * no Earth connection * Three CTs, suitable for install on the overhead wires * Level III AS60950 and UL61010 * Reinforced insulation between the electronics and the external antenna. I have no prior exposure to what happens up a pole, but assume that this will be classed as a Level IV environment. Apart from the increased overvoltage requirement for Level IV (from 4kV to 6kV), 60950 doesn't say much about poles. I'm not the first person putting electronics up a pole, so hopefully there are some guidelines somewhere. Perhaps there are some utility-specific requirements? I figure on using an * IP65 metal box * an external puck-style antenna mounted on the top of the enclosure * voltage conditioning * fuses on the three phases as they enter the box, or maybe the Utility will provide these externally. My best guess at "voltage conditioning" is some series resistance and a surge arrestor: neutral to all three phases That should meet the level IV requirement, not sure about the necessity for series resistance. What about fuses? I assume these need to stand off 6kV when open. I have seen pictures of equipment that uses flying leads that connect directly to the street wiring, and so assume that internal fuses are acceptable.
