EMC-PSTC group,

This question is in regard to EN/IEC 62368-1 instructional safeguards. In
section 8.5.2, instructional safeguard requirements for moving parts, the
symbol for element 1a "shall be" IEC60417-6056 for moving fan blades and IEC
60417-6057 for other moving parts. Suppose the moving part is something like
a rubber belt and these symbols do not convey that?

Now if I look at the standard Clause F.5 for instructional safeguards, it
describes element 1a in Table F.1 more generally as a symbol that identifies
the nature of the class 2 or class 3 energy source and the consequences that
can be caused by the energy source. It further states that symbols for element
1a shall be from IEC 60417, ISO 3864-2, ISO 7000, ISO 7010 or the equivalent.

My question then, is it permissible to select a symbol from the IEC/ISO
standards, other than the symbols specified in section 8.5.2, that clearly the
identifies the nature of the moving part or energy source? In other words can
I ignore the "shall be" part of 8.5.2 and select a more appropriate symbol from
the IEC/ISO standards? This same question applies to instructional safeguards
for other energy sources, as well.

Thank you.

Jim Hulbert
