Hi Ted:
Thanks for looking into this. I'm following up to report on my findings, in case anyone else is interested in this topic. Based on the Table of Contents for AS/NZS 3012 and AS/NZS 3022, it appears that they cover only the physical and mechanical aspects of terminal strips and power adapters. What I was looking for were the requirements (if any) placed on internal surge protection components such as MOVs. Additional research suggested that AS/NZS 3105 might contain some safety requirements for MOVs because one clause in the Table of Contents refers to "conditioning circuits," but after purchasing the standard I found that clause to be unhelpful. Further research indicated that AS/NZS 3100 might be the place to look, and that is where I found some safety requirements for MOVs (clause 3.16). The MOV requirements were added in Amendment 1 in 2009. The current edition is dated 2017 and contains two more amendments. While the wording is vague, it appears that the other three standards mentioned above include, by reference, AN/NZS 3100. So, if an AC mains terminal strip or adapter contains MOVs for surge protection, it appears the applicable requirements appear in AS/NZS 3100. Thanks again for helping me to get oriented in my search. I went to their Australian site and they have downloadable certificates for their surge strips. In the USA, the applicable safety standard for such devices is UL 1449. I have not been able to identify the applicable safety standard for such devices in Australia. Does anyone know what the applicable safety standard is for Australia? My efforts to use a web search have led only to frustration, with a lot of links to standards that are not relevant. What I'm trying to determine is what safety standards (if any) a manufacturer of such devices must have their product comply with. And, what is the traceability path from the product label to the standard that the product complies with.
