Hello all,

Regarding Reese’s Law and the role of the CPSC in publishing a standard for the
battery compartment as defined:

“Enacted in 2022, Reese’s Law (P.L. 117-171) mandates federal safety
requirements for button cell and coin batteries. Section 2 of Reese’s Law
requires CPSC to promulgate a rule for button cell or coin batteries and
consumer products that contain such batteries. The standard must include
performance requirements for the battery compartment of such consumer products,
as well as warning label requirements for button cell or coin battery
packaging, consumer product packaging, any accompanying literature, and the
product itself (as practicable). CPSC staff published a Notice of Proposed
Rulemaking (NPR) outlining the requirements (88 FR 8692); comments to the NPR
must be submitted by March 13, 2023.”

I have not been able to find any publication of such a rule by the CPSC, which
was – unless I am mistaken – due by 16 August 2023. Are any of you aware of the
rule being published please?

Best regards,
John
