I just recently discovered ubuntu and EMC2. My interests lie mainly in using EMC2 as a relatively dumb DRO. I downloaded the live boot CD and installed it on 2 different machines - one for the shop and one for development at the house. The installation went well, or so I thought.

In the EMC documentation, on page 26, are the instructions for loading a parallel port. I couldn't get either system to use the hal_parport command. Ialso couldn't get either machine to acknowledge the scripts/realtime command on the same page. My directory tree looks like this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd ..
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home$ cd ..
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/$ ls
bin dev hplip-1.6.12.run lost+found proc sys vmlinuz
boot etc initrd media root tmp
cdrom home initrd.img mnt sbin usr
debian hplip-1.6.12 lib opt srv var
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/$ cd etc
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc$ cd emc2
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/emc2$ ls
emc2.gif emc2icon.png emc2-wizard.gif rtapi.conf sample-configs
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/emc2$

Am I missing something?
