Hello - Dean covered a lot of ground, I just wanted to add my 2 cents. The linux NTFS driver 3g (http://www.linux-ntfs.org/) can read and write NTFS, and I have had no problems with corruptions even thought its still in beta.
Also, to transfer files between 2 separate PCs you can use the cygwin tools. Just enable ssh or the Linux box and you can scp to it. In fact I run EMC remotely via ssh -X <linux-host> and bring up the EMC gui on a XP box. If you are new to linux/Unix then none of this will make sense at first ...but its fairly easy to do if you are committed. This way do can do all the Mastercam stuff on Windows and just control the Linux box like you would in a DNC environment. -ali --- Dean Hedin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > First I want to say I have never run EMC from a > laptop. > I have run several laptops with dual boot XP/Linux > > I have had my best success running Linux with IBM > laptops. > This was before Lenovo absorbed IBM's laptop > division. > > As far as graphics go, just make sure that you > investigate the > graphics chipset that is on the model your are > interested in an > make sure it is supported by the X server. > > You will need a laptop with a parallel port.
