Try the latest version of the RS-274-D manual, which may be on the 
linuxcnc.org site.  In any event goggle will get you hundreds of hits.  
It is a complete as of such and such a date, language description and you 
can write working code directly from its examples.

It is being extended, with new commands, but I don't know if the document 
itself is keeping up with the coders working on EMV-2.1+, they're flying 
pretty fast with it.
