Gentlemen, Thanks for pointing out the error of my ways. I have fixed those errors.
Part of the problem was that the reported error was was not the first location in the file where the problem existed. That mislead me into thinking that the expression was not the problem. Also the documentation is not consistent in following the rules regarding expressions, i.e., some examples contain expressions but do not have the square brackets. Maybe when I become a little better versed in the gcode I can help with the documentation. I think Ken's suggestion for improving the interpreter would be great.
