I did get the two pieces of brass tubing and a suitable spring today, but the 
shack seems to have disco'd anything resembling an opto-interrupter.  I can 
remember when the shack kept small town america radio stations on the air, 
often by having better parts than the TX makers used.  Sadly, that is no 
more.

I don't suppose you have a digikey part # for that handy?  Hint, hint. :)
