Hi Steve. Could you provide the model number of the laptop? That's the best way to be able to search for exact driver issues. Also, I don't think you mentioned the screen resolution. There are known issues with Ubuntu 6.06 and widescreen displays.
It's likely that either monitor detection isn't working or the Nvidia chipset you have is not fully supported by the version of Ubuntu that the EMC2 disc is based on. Please try (a) booting the EMC2 liveCD on a different computer, and (b) booting a later version of Ubuntu on the laptop. If you can boot the EMC2 CD on another PC, then we know it's good, and there's a problem related to the laptop. If you can boot a later version of Ubuntu (like 7.04 - Feisty Fawn), that gives us another data point regarding moving to a later Ubuntu version. Note: I'm not saying that we're going to change distributions because your laptop doesn't work - laptops are notorious for having major problems with realtime, so insuring compatibility with them isn't a priority. Since you don't want to install to the hard drive, you'll have to re-do any fixes every time you reboot. You can install drivers when booted from the live CD, but the changes you make are lost when you reboot. There are ways of making changes persist, but they're not trivial (not too hard, but you do need to know what you're doing). Incidentally, there is also a procedure for making a bootable USB memory stick, so if you can boot from USB, you can make a configurable installation without affecting the hard disk. - Steve Steve Blackmore wrote: >On Sun, 15 Jul 2007 18:08:14 -0400, you wrote: > > >>Could you provide us with the manufacturer and model number of your >>computer (both the PC and the monitor)?
