I believe EMC doesn't talk to PLC's yet, but appears Steve has just
written a Modbus driver so that may change soon.

If your PLC can output BCD on digital output pins, then yes. The turret
on my lathe outputs the tool position in BCD on four pins. I used the
weighted sum component, wsum, to convert it to an integer. See the
Turret section of this file:

Unfortunately, I have no experience with plasma cutters. I did briefly
look through the dallur-thc files:
