I had some problems with certain BDI versions working with Dell Optiplex systems with on-board video, but usually could get them to work with a significant amount of tweaking. I have not had problems with the EMC2 / ubuntu kernel-based systems. I have been using off-lease Dell Optiplex desktop systems for some time with great results. An 800 MHz Pentium III with 256 MB of memory is a great system for EMC2. I have also been put onto the Gateway Profile 3 computer by Stuart Stevenson. It is basically a laptop with a separate keyboard and a stand, slightly thicker than just an LCD monitor! He even located a touch screen unit that works with it!
