I would like to get more information on the tool changer on this lathe.

I am thinking a Sherline class changer of this type might be a good
thing.

I am trying to figure out generally how they work. Does anyone have
links to this or similar changers?

I can see using a planetary gear and electric motor to rotate the head.
Then using pins or a notched plate to lock it. One of the details that
bothers me is, can I use ball bearings as part of the turret locating
system during machining, or will the tool and table locking forces wear
divots in the races? The Hardinge turret floats during a tool change,
then parks on a notched plate, but doing this electrically instead of
pneumatically would be a challenge. The changer above, I believe doesn't
float. Plus I wounder if it can be located at intermediate positions or
only lock in one of eight positions. Thanks for any help.
